What is the horn silica preparation 501?
The horn silica preparation 501 is – like the horn manure preparation 500 – a biodynamic field spray preparation.
The horn silica preparation 501 is applied while the plants are growing. It keeps plants healthy and leads to higher yields of better quality.
How does the horn silica preparation 501 work?

How is the horn silica preparation 501 used?
As a field spray preparation, the horn silica preparation 501 is dynamised, i.e. stirred in water, for one hour before use.
How is it stirred?
Put the preparation into a wooden or stoneware pot filled with (rain)water, ideally cylindrical – metal is fine too (we would advise against plastic). Depending on the size of your area, use roughly the amount of water your sprayer can hold. The finer the spray it produces, the larger the area you can cover. For smaller areas, it is advisable to add a little more preparation to the water.
When stirring, make sure you complete the full 60 minutes without interruption. Take a wooden stick and stir quite quickly in one direction until a deep funnel (vortex) forms. Then stop and reverse the direction of stirring so that the water bubbles vigorously. Continue like this for the entire 60 minutes. After a while this becomes a little tiring, but it also has something meditative about it.
How is the horn silica preparation 501 applied to the land?
The stirred horn silica preparation can be sprayed onto the plants (i.e. the flower, leaf and fruit zone) in large drops or as a fine mist. On small areas, a brush, for example, is suitable for applying horn silica; it is used to sprinkle the preparation. To apply the preparation more efficiently, or for large areas in a market garden or in agriculture, we recommend one of our preparation sprayers.
When is the ideal time of year for application?
The horn silica preparation 501 is applied at the earliest when flowers or fruit are forming, i.e. once the first buds have developed. For cereals, spraying takes place at the start of tillering and of stem elongation and ear emergence. For winter cereals, depending on growth, a first spraying can already take place in autumn. Forage crops are treated when the stand is about 10cm high.
What is the ideal time of day for application?
The horn silica preparation is sprayed in the morning, after sunrise. In the morning it supports the vegetative development of the plants, whereas in the afternoon it supports the ripening process.
How is the horn silica preparation 501 stored?
Horn silica is stored dry and above all in the light, ideally in a sunny spot (e.g. by a window), in a glass jar. A place with morning sun is very suitable.
