Biodynamic tree paste (according to Maria Thun)

Our tree paste is a very economical ready-made mix and serves as a trunk coating for all kinds of shrubs and trees.

Unlike herbaceous plants, trees are not fed only through the humus in the soil but also through the bark. Beneath the bark lies the cambium; the fruiting wood sends its sinkers into it and draws from it the nutrients and nourishing forces for fruit formation.

Maria Thun developed tree paste to strengthen the cambium via the bark.

• to strengthen the trunk and branches
• to seal pruning wounds
• to protect against fungal infestation

After three applications to the bark, rejuvenation of the cambium can be achieved.
In the root zone, mature compost is used to support the development of soil organisms. This applies to all kinds of trees, especially fruit trees and shrubs.

Tree paste can be applied several times between autumn and spring.

• In autumn, once the leaves have fallen, to strengthen the trunk and branches.
• After pruning, to seal pruning wounds and so protect against possible diseases.
• In spring before bud break, to protect the plants against fungal infestation, which is encouraged by rising temperatures.

We can dilute the dry tree paste with rainwater, whey or the horsetail preparation 508 until it can easily be applied with a paintbrush or a wide brush. This makes the tree paste go a very long way.

• First brush off the bark
• Then paint the tree paste over the whole trunk with a brush, like distemper
• Thinner branches can also be sprayed with tree paste. For this, it is diluted with horsetail preparation and filtered well until it can be sprayed.

Note: if the dilution is to be very liquid, it should be diluted with horsetail preparation.

The tree paste should be transferred to a stoneware container and stored in a dark, cool place. Before the next application, the tree paste can be diluted with sufficient dynamised horsetail preparation.
